John R Wald Jr.

John R. Wald Jr. (Jack) was born in Huntingdon, PA on July 31, 1921, to parents John R Wald and Emma Gulbrandson. The family moved to Iowa and Virginia before settling in Huntingdon, PA. He attended Juniata College in Huntingdon for one year, and graduated from MIT in 1944 with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married Frieda Schifferli (Fritzie) who passed away in August of 2005. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served two years in the Pacific during World War II where he became captain of the ship and at the age of 24, was the oldest and only married man. When he returned from the war, they moved to Montoursville, PA and then to Williamsport, PA. In 1954, they moved to Huntingdon where he worked as Vice President for the John R Wald Industries. In 1963, the family moved to Flemington NJ where he served as the President of Cavanagh Corporation in Croton where they made UV Inks. During his life, he was engaged in a wide range of civic affairs. He was active in Boy Scouts, attended the first national Jamboree in Washington DC in 1937 followed by the international Jamboree in Holland. He served as the President of the Juniata Valley Council Boy Scouts of America where he received the Silver Beaver Award. He also served as President of the Huntingdon PTA, was on the Board of Directors of the Rotary club and was a member of numerable professional societies. He is survived by his six children: Martha Barton in Illinois, Cathy Daub in New Jersey, Jack Wald in Morocco, Lee Wald in New Hampshire, Heidi Kucera in California and Trudy Suleiman in New Jersey.
