Joseph Pampani

   PISCATAWAY — Joseph Pampani died Sept. 14 at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Menlo Park. He was 82.
   Born in Raritan Borough, he resided in Somerville, Manville, Toms River, the Senior Citizen’s Complex in Piscataway and for the past four years at Brandywine Assisted Living in Bridgewater.
   Mr. Pampani was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service in Manville for 25 years.
   He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a machinist’s mate third class. He was a recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Medal and the Philippine Presidential Liberation Medal.
   He was a member of Thomas J. Kavanaugh Post 2290 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Manville, where he served as past commander and past District 15 commander; an exempt fireman with Manville Fire Co. no. 1 and a past president of the Exempt Fireman Association in Manville; he was a past Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator and Life Member third and fourth degree of the Knights of Columbus Council 1432 in Somerville; he was the founder of the former Knights of Columbus Council 5051 “Our Lady of Peace” in Manville, and the Men’s Club of Silver Ridge Park West in Toms River.
   He served as a coach for Little League Baseball in Manville.
   He worked as a volunteer at the Lyons VA Medical Center in Bernards Township for many years.
   He was a communicant of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Manville.
   His wife, Mary (Petillo) Pampani, died in 1991; his brothers, Anthony “Tony” and Edward, are deceased.
   Surviving are his son, John of Piscataway; a daughter, Linda Kowal-Burket of Manville; a sister, Ann Mitelski of Windsor, Va.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
   Funeral services were held Sept. 19 from Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home in Manville, followed by a funeral liturgy at Christ the King Church. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough.
