Boy Scouts report active and productive summer

Boy Scout Troop 193 recently awarded the scouts with their badges that the boys earned while at summer camp. The troop attended camp at the Kittantinny Mountain Scout Reservation in July.
”The Scouts slept in lean-tos, ate in the dining hall, swam in the lake,” Scoutmaster Jim Kelly said. “We had a chance to go to the archery range for an open shoot, which the boys had a great time.”
Mr. Kelly said the Scouts also participated in a “Tin man competition,” which is like a relay race of rowing, swimming, running and archery but it is a little bit different.
”It’s not just rowing, it was rowing without the paddles, the boys just scooped with their arms and they had a lot of fun,” he said.
The troop was one of two to win the Honor Troop award at camp. The boys earned many badges toward their Eagle Scout rank.
Nine scouts earned 21 badges for advancement. Danel Allen earned Mammal Study and Personal Fitness; Jason Fiduk earned Citizenship in the World and Cooking; Matthew Miller earned Camping, Cooking, Leatherwork, and Mammal Study and Jasiu Olejnik earned Personal Management. John Osmond earned Citizenship in the World and Cooking; Kevin Sellar earned Athletics, Emergency Preparedness, Personal Fitness, Space Exploration, and Sports. Peter Stadtmueller earned Communications and Indian Lore, Matthew Trond earned Cooking; and Douglas Weber earned Camping and Cooking.
Leaders from Troop 193 that also attend the weeklong camp with the boys included Mr. Kelly, Bruce Hixson, Mike Trond and Gerard Osmond.
”When the boys go to summer camp, the Scouts get the opportunity to learn a lot of skills, a lot of rank advancement and a whole lot about independence, they are never alone but they are always on their own,” said Mr. Kelly. “It is really a good opportunity.”
