TCC opens next week

EAST BRUNSWICK — After a year of construction, commuters will be able to park at the new Transportation and Commerce Center (TCC) as of Oct. 1.

The township-owned and -operated parking deck and bus terminal at Route 18 and Tices Lane consists of seven levels of parking with 1,681 spaces, approximately 600 more than the former parking lot there. Permit parking, at $25 per month for residents and $55 for nonresidents, is available on levels one through five, while levels six and seven will have daily parking for $4.

The new deck has four bus loading ramps, two ticket offices, two ticket machines and a township parking office.

Toll Brothers built the deck at a cost of $32 million, paid for by the township. Mayor William Neary said the money will not come from taxpayers, but from parking utility revenue.

The parking deck is the first phase of the three-phase Golden Triangle redevelopment project. According to Toll Brothers, the property will be known as The Cornerstone at East Brunswick and will eventually include more than 400 residences as well as new retail space.

Sam’s Club and other stores that currently operate on the Golden Triangle site via leases are expected to vacate the property to make way for the new construction. Toll Brothers has not indicated when that might take place.
