Fall Harvest Festival at Terhune Orchards

    Terhune Orchards is hosting this year’s Fall Harvest Festival on the Farm — five weekends of family fun — starting Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27 and 28,  and running throughout October, at the home farm located on Cold Soil Road.
    “The festival celebrates all the great fruits and vegetables grown at Terhune Orchards — apples and pumpkins, in particular,” says Pam Mount, co-owner.
    “Pick-Your-Own” is a fall favorite with many families. Famillies can ride the farm wagon to the pick-their-own apples and raspberries at the farm on Van Kirk Road, and pick-their-own pumpkins are located at the home farm on Cold Soil Road.
    Choosing just the right pumpkin for a jack-o-lantern is often a family affair. Pumpkin-painting stations will be set up. And families can find their way through the Corn Stalk Maze.
    Terhune’s adventure barn theme this year is “The Legend and Lore of Johnny Appleseed,” consisting of vignettes of Johnny’s life made by the Terhune Orchards staff, illustrating “how all those apple seeds created all those family orchards as the pioneers moved west,” says Gary Mount, co-owner.
    “Pam’s Lunch Tent” will be selling home-made soup and chili, hot dogs for the kids, apple salads and pasta, cookies and, of course, apple pie and cider. Families can enjoy the goodies at picnic tables by the pond.
    The festival has become a tradition for country and bluegrass fans. Bands play each weekend between noon and 4 p.m. Here’s the lineup:
    • Saturday: The Beth Coleman Band; Sunday, The Dixie Kicks;
    • Oct. 4: Borderline; Oct. 5: Mountain Laurel;
    • Oct. 11: The Spring Street Band; Oct. 12: Chuck Schaeffer and Friends;
    • Oct. 18: Eco Del Sur; Oct 19: Mountain Heritage;
    • Oct. 25: Past Times; Oct. 26: Mitchel’s Cajun Aces.
    And that’s not all:
    • On Saturday and Sunday, sculptor Catherine Perry and photographer Janet Hautau return with an exciting exhibit and sale of their works in Terhune’s 100-year-old barn.
    • On Oct. 4 and 5, the Alpaca Breeders of New Jersey will present their animals and give talks on raising them. On sale will be handmade items.
    From Oct. 3 through Oct. 30, the Terhune Orchards Photo Contest entries will be on display in the old barn. Winners will be announced at the reception on Friday, Oct. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m.
    There is no admission charge for Fall Harvest Festival on the Farm.
