Sunday afternoon in Manville, the Colts played another 4-1 team and were able to defeat the Middlesex Midgets 14-0 to improve their record to 5-1 on the season.
The rainy weather forced offensive coach Al Rizk to be a little careful in the play calling but the Colts offense responded anyway. Both captains Isiah Morgan and Andre Heridia had solid games on both sides of the ball.
Matias Gualtieri and Joey Veglatte scored touchdowns for the Colts. The elusive extra points were made easily by Heridia and Altaron Robinson. The rain also didn’t prevent L.J. Abner from having a 30-yard pass reception. The ground game provided 192 yards on the muddy field.
Defensively, Veglatte had an outstanding game with six tackles to lead the Colts. Veglatte also stopped any quarterback flushes from the pocket. Ends Jonathan Rizk and Jake Babich again showed containment skills. Abner also wound up with four tackles.
The Colts (5-1) will travel to Kenilworth next Sunday to face another team with only one loss.
Rainy, muddy day
for Pintos in loss
Sunday was a tough day and loss for the Manville Pintos in their Pop Warner home game against Middlesex.
The Pintos just couldn’t get anything working in the rain and mud. Some of the highlights included Kyle Puza rushing and a nice pass from Anthony Zuhone to Tristan Jamie to the five-yard line, but a forced fumble gave the ball back to Middlesex.
Manville’s defense held Middlesex in the second half but the tackling and poor footing caused a lot of the problems.
The Pintos will spend the week preparing for next Sunday’s road game in Kenilworth.
