Joseph Saitta Sr.

   HILLSBOROUGH — Joseph A. Saitta Sr. died Sept. 23 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. He was 80.
   He was born in Edison, lived in Manville for 50 years before moving to Hillsborough 11 years ago.
   Mr. Saitta was the owner/operator of Saitta’s Restaurant in Manville. He also was the owner of Joseph A. Saitta Mason Contractors for 30 years.
   He served in the Army during the Korean War with Company F 34th Infantry Regiment and received the Korean Service Medal and the United National Service Medal.
   He was a past grand knight for the Knights of Columbus in Manville.
   He was a communicant of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Manville.
   He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Saitta.
   Surviving are his wife, Sophia Saitta, of Hillsborough; two sons, Joseph A. Jr. of Stockton and John “Lenny” Horner of Easton, Pa.; three daughters, Cynthia Saitta of Freehold and Serena Saitta Peterson, of Manville; three brothers, Philip of Orlando, Fla., Charles Jr. of Clearwater, Fla., and Thomas of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.
   The funeral was held Sept. 27 from Ketusky Funeral Home in Manville, followed by a Mass at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church. Burial followed at St. Peter’s Cemetery in New Brunswick.
