Fallen power line snarls Tuesday traffic

MANSFIELD — A fallen power line stopped traffic on I-295 for nearly two hours on Tuesday afternoon and caused nearly 10,000 nearby residents to lose power, state police said.
A PSE&G live wire snapped at mile marker 53.4 in Mansfield and fell onto the roadway at 1:06 p.m. causing a flat-bed truck to overturn and obstructing both north and southbound traffic, police said.
The driver of the overturned truck, although not injured seriously, was taken to Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly, authorities said.
Traffic in both directions was stopped, and detours were set up along local roads in Florence and Mansfield to divert traffic, said Florence Police Chief Stephen Fazekas.
The fallen power line also left nearly 10,000 residents in Florence without power for a few hours Tuesday afternoon.
Chief Fazekas said on Wednesday morning that the entire Florence Police Department was on hand to guide the heavy traffic flow through the township.
“With the help of the Fire Police, we were able to manage things, and no accidents occurred as a result of increase of traffic flowing through the township,” he said.
