The Robbinsville High field hockey team’s bid for a perfect season ended at home in a 3-1 loss to Peddie on Monday.
While the Ravens entered Monday’s game with a flawless 7-0 record, they knew they would very likely lose some regular season games this year because of the addition of some tougher contests, including Peddie, on their schedule.
According to Robbinsville head coach Naoma Cordi, the Ravens beefed up their regular season schedule in preparation for both the Mercer County Tournament and the state tournament.
The Falcons took a 3-0 lead into the second half, but the Ravens’ Emilie Taylor countered with a goal, assisted by Jackie Sikora.
Neither team reached double digits in shots on goal as Peddie held an 8-5 lead over Robbinsville in that category. Robbinsville goalie Kellye Satz made five saves. It was the first time all season long that Robbinsville’s stingy defense surrendered more than one goal to an opponent.
Last Thursday Robbinsville used a trio of first half goals to defeat West Windsor-Plainsboro North, 3-1.
Ashley DeAngelis scored a quick goal to put the Ravens up 1-0. Kaitlin Hill and Jessica Kraemer also fired in first-half tallies. Christy Wham, Kate Connolly and Ashleigh Stewart each assisted on a goal for the victors. Statz made eight saves in goal as Robbinsville held a slim 11-9 advantage in shots on goal.
Taylor Mitchell scored a pair of goals to lead Robbinsville to a 2-0 road victory over Notre Dame on September 23. Mitchell’s first goal came with 21:13 left in the first half and it was set up by a Wham pass. Then roughly five minutes later, Taylor set up Mitchell’s second score of the contest.
The Ravens had 12 shots on goal to Notre Dame’s seven. Robbinsville held Notre Dame to no penalty corners while compiling seven penalty corner itself. Statz made seven saves to earn the shutout.
Unlike last year when Taylor was Robbinsville’s primary scorer, the Ravens are getting offense from multiple sources this season. But Taylor is having a very good year too.
Robbinsville (7-1) was scheduled to play Lawrence yesterday (Wednesday). Robbinsville is scheduled to host Hamilton West on Thursday. Next Monday Robbinsville is scheduled to host Princeton and next Tuesday Robbinsville is scheduled to play a road game at Nottingham.
