LAMBERTVILLE — A break-in at the concession stand at Ely Field netted the thieves less than $5 in change after the remainder of the money in the register, approximately another $5 in change, dropped to the floor and scattered, police said last week.
To gain entry into the snack shack, the thieves pried open the metal security screen that rolls down over the service window, according to Officer Anthony Memolo. Once inside, they pried open the cash register in such a way that it is now deemed useless.
The thieves dragged the register and about half the coins it contained into the nearby woods where police found the register about 350 feet away from the concession stand, Officer Memolo said.
Police said the theft occurred sometime the night of Sep. 21. It was reported at about 1:30 p.m. the next day.
   The investigation is ongoing.
In a separate robbery Sept. 12, three oil paintings were taken from Artisan Arts at 35 N. Union St. between noon and 6 p.m.
Valued at $350 each, they were hanging next to a rear door that had been left propped open.
The paintings by Irene Kotinsky are titled “Star and Moon,” “You Promise Me” and “Dreaming of You.”
