Lawrence freshman Sarah Borajkiewicz’s first varsity goal made all the difference as the Cardinals girls’ soccer team edged Allentown, 1-0, on Thursday.
”She scored from about 30 yards out,” said Lawrence coach Dave Boggs. “She just hit a bomb, she one timed it and it went into the upper left corner of the net.”
Lawrence improved to 3-2 with the win, with Nicole Krawczyk posting the shutout after Lawrence suffered two tough losses.
Krawczyk made 14 saves in her third shutout of the season.
Lawrence started the season with a shutout victory over the Redbirds on Sept. 13.
Borajkiewicz’s game-winner came in the second half after Lawrence had created several strong offensive opportunities.
”We had a lot of chances,” said Boggs. “We jus couldn’t seem to bury one. We were all thrilled when Sarah finally finished one.”
Boggs said seniors Molly Goodell and Jen Korngut applied offensive pressure and had several scoring chances as well.
Borajkiewicz’s goal was Lawrence’s first following shut out losses to Notre Dame and Hopewell Valley. The Cardinals started the season strong with a pair of shut out victories.
”Overall we have very good chemistry,” said Boggs. “We just want to pick up our intensity. We’re definitely knocking the ball around well, and possessing it. We just have to be consistent for 80 minutes. We want to work just as hard from start to end.”
The Cardinals are in for a lot of hard work with three games in four days.
Lawrence was scheduled to play West Windsor-Plainsboro North yesterday (Wednesday) and will take on Trenton tomorrow and Princeton on Saturday.
”It will be a challenge for our fitness,” said Boggs, “but we’re excited about the challenge.”
Lawrence is also scheduled to play Robbinsville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Mercer County Community College stadium.
