Dora Cecile Seyfarth
Verbeyst, 85, of Mount Rose
in Hopewell Township died September 27, 2008 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in the Princeton Hospital, she was the daughter of Mathilde Rousseau Seyfarth and Jacob Seyfarth. Married for fifty-nine years to the late Louis Verbeyst, she and her husband owned and operated Verbeyst French Dry Cleaners in Princeton.
MrsVerbeyst graduated from Somerville High School and Bucknell University. She was a past member of both the League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women. She was an active member of the Blawenburg Reformed Church and served with her husband as charter members of the Montgomery Township Volunteer Fire Department No. 2 in Blawenburg.
An avid collector of antiques and her interest in the preservation of the environment led her to spend many happy times at their second home, a farm located near Canton, Pennsylvania. Dora’s love of children inspired her along with a small group of women to bring about the regionalization of all the schools within Hopewell Township, creating the Hopewell Valley Regional School System.
Predeceased by her husband, Louis Verbeyst and grandson, Louis (Luke) Verbeyst, she is survived by a brother, Robert Seyfarth and three sister-in-laws; six daughters, a son, their spouses, nineteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Barbara and Ronald Blackwell of Roaring Branch, PA, their daughters and sons-in-law Christine and Stacy Cooper, and Abigail and Troy Pressens, Frances and Peter Rainsford of Hyde Park, NY their son Major Tage Rainsford and daughter and son-in-law Stefanie and Patrick Russo, Janet and John Melamed of Phoenix, AZ and their sons, Joseph and Samuel Melamed, daughter and son-in-law Emily and Justin Henry, Alice and Michael Hersh of Hopewell Township and their two sons Matthew and Phillip Hersh, Margaret and George Gorman of Manassas, VA, their two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Joshua Rose, Rebecca and Joshua Felch, and son George Gorman IV, Kenneth and Trish Verbeyst, their son James Verbeyst, Kenneth’s son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Ellie Verbeyst, daughter Veronica and their mother Beth Hayes, Ginger and Mark Leonard of Hopewell Township and their daughter Michelle and sons Gregory and Jack Leonard.
A memorial service was held Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Blawenburg Reformed Church in Blawenburg.
