Dora Cecile Seyfarth Verbeyst, 85, of Mount Rose, Hopewell Township, died Sept. 27 at home.
She and her late husband, Louis Verbeyst, owned and operated Verbeyst French Dry Cleaners in Princeton.
Mrs. Verbeyst graduated from Somerville High School and Bucknell University. She was a past member of both the League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women. She was an active member of the Blawenburg Reformed Church and served with her husband as a charter member of the Montgomery Township Volunteer Fire Department No. 2 in Blawenburg.
A collector of antiques and interest in the preservation of the environment led her to spend times at the family’s second home near Canton, Pa. She and a small group of women worked to help bring about the regionalization of Hopewell Valley schools.
Predeceased by her parents Mathilde Rousseau Seyfarth and Jacob Seyfarth, her husband of 59 years Louis Verbeyst, and grandson, Louis (Luke) Verbeyst, she is survived by a brother, Robert Seyfarth, three sisters-in-laws, six daughters and a son and their spouses, 19 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. They are: Barbara and Ronald Blackwell of Roaring Branch, Pa., and their daughters and sons-in-law Christine and Stacy Cooper, and Abigail and Troy Pressens; Frances and Peter Rainsford of Hyde Park, N.Y., their son Major Tage Rainsford and daughter and son-in-law Stefanie and Patrick Russo; Janet and John Melamed of Phoenix, Ariz., and their sons, Joseph and Samuel Melamed, daughter and son-in-law Emily and Justin Henry, Alice and Michael Hersh of Hopewell Township and their two sons Matthew and Phillip Hersh; Margaret and George Gorman of Manassas, Va., their two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Joshua Rose, Rebecca and Joshua Felch, and son George Gorman IV; Kenneth and Trish Verbeyst, their son James Verbeyst, Kenneth’s son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Ellie Verbeyst, daughter Veronica and their mother Beth Hayes; Ginger and Mark Leonard of Hopewell Township and their daughter Michelle and sons Gregory and Jack Leonard.
A memorial service was held Sept. 28 at the Blawenburg Reformed Church, Blawenburg.
