Thank you for the recent article about the proposed ordinance to expand the use of the village area of Imlaystown.
However, the article did not state that this is not a “done deal.” Although all indications are that the mayor and council are leaning toward a separate designation of the area, this hasn’t been formally decided yet.
The mayor and town council have carried the ordinance to their meeting scheduled for Oct. 16. When an ordinance is carried, the governing body does not have to re-notify the residents. The objections that we voiced at the last hearing were many.
This ordinance would open up the area to changes that would destroy the peaceful existence we now have. Under this ordinance, the types of “businesses” that could be seen in the area range between a Dunkin’ Donuts to a methadone clinic. Even looking at the restrictions on size is not a guarantee that these businesses could not be put up. Keep in mind that all they would have to do is get a use variance.
So if you want to keep Imlaystown and the village area the way it is, please make time to come out and voice your objections. These are our homes, our lives and our futures.
