A Monmouth Junction man had to be subdued by four police officers and pepper sprayed on Sunday after he became combative during a traffic stop, police said.
Wesseh Worjroh, 21, was charged with obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and driving while intoxicated after police received a call that Mr. Worjroh had been seen slumped over the wheel of his car in the McDonald’s parking lot on Route 1 and Sandhills Road.
Police received the call from employees at the McDonald’s at 9:18 a.m. that Mr. Worjroh was unconscious and slumped over his steering wheel, police said. Employees did not approach the car, said South Brunswick police spokesman Sgt. Hugh McNeil. Police said Mr. Worjroh drove away before they arrived, but employees had taken down his license plate number. Police ran his plates, and proceeded to his Monmouth Junction home.
”We didn’t know if it was a heart attack or if he was sick or what,” Sgt. McNeil said. “When we get a call that someone is slumped over the wheel, our first concern is their welfare, and the fact that they are behind the wheel of a car.”
Mr. Worjroh was found by Patrol Officer Lazlo Nyitrai driving his car near his home, according to Sgt. McNeil. Officers detected alcohol on his breath and asked him to exit the vehicle for a field sobriety test. Mr. Worjroh refused the tests and became combative to officers.
Patrol Officers Dan Olsson, Dennis Yuhasz and Jason Gasmen were needed to subdue Mr. Worjroh and get him into handcuffs and transport him to police headquarters, police said.
He was taken to Middlesex County Adult Correction Center and released on $10,000 bail later that day.
