George Hanuschik

BORDENTOWN – George Hanuschik, 79, died Sunday at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital at Hamilton with his family by his side.
    Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong resident of Bordentown. Mr. Hanuschik enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served onboard the USS Banner, USS Sumner and USS George Clymer during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1961 and received numerous awards.
    He was employed at General Motors as a foreman/supervisor. He retired in 1982 after 32 years of dedicated service. In 1959 he became one of the founding members of the Derby Volunteer Fire Company of Bordentown. He was also a fire commissioner for over 15 years of Fire District 2, past fire inspector for Bordentown Township, and a life member of Derby Fire Company where he served as president and fire chief.
    He was a former member of Liberty Rescue Squad, a member of the New Jersey State Fire Chief’s Association and the New Jersey State Exempt Fireman’s Association, a member of the Bordentown Township Planning and Zoning Board, a past Burlington County committeeman, and he was the former president and vice president of the Bordentown Township Senior Citizens Club. He also served as president of Bossert Estate Civic Association. He was a member of the American Legion Post 26, life member of the Bordentown Elks Lodge 2085 and a member of the German-American Club in Yardville.
    Son of the late Andrew and Mary Hanuschik, he was predeceased by his brother Andrew Hanuschik. He is survived by his wife Catherine “Rena” Hanuschik; his daughter and son-in-law Karen and Barry Buvel; his daughter Rosemarie Ennis; his son and daughter-in-law George T. and Jayne Hanuschik; his grandchildren Jaime and Julia Ennis; his sisters and brother-in-laws Mary May, Anne and Carl Pirrera, Margaret and John Lucash; his brother John Hanuschik; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. today, Thursday, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown. Viewing hours will be held Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
