Re-electing Carol Barrett, Charles Carley and Joe Camerota to the Township Council is more than a Democrat-Republican issue and more than a South Brunswick issue. It’s rewarding them for setting an example of fiscal responsibility and green progress for both the New Jersey and United States governments.
During the past several years of relative prosperity for the town, South Brunswick earned extra tax revenues from business growth that our Township Council wisely put aside for a rainy day. This year was a very rainy day; some would call it torrential rain. Wall Street credit crash, record job losses, record high gasoline prices, record high food prices and on and on.
As a result of our Township Council’s decision to put aside the extra business taxes received, we do not have an increase in our township property taxes. That’s right: zero increase in taxes. That’s remarkable.
Even better: Despite increases in the costs to the township for gasoline and other energy, wages and benefits, contracts and every kind of supplies, our Township Council actually increased township services — yet no tax increase.
The state and federal governments should be run as well as South Brunswick.
Council members Carol Barrett, Charles Carley and Joe Camarota have earned our respect, appreciation and re-election.
