On Oct. 15, the Hopewell Valley League of Women Voters will hold its annual Candidates’ Night Forum for those running for seats on Hopewell Valley’s three municipal governing bodies.
The forum will be held from 7:30-9 p.m. in the TV studio at Hopewell Valley Central High School, Pennington-Titusville Road.
The public is invited to attend and ask questions of the candidates.
Four candidates are vying for two three-year terms on Pennington Borough Council. Democrats Glen Griffiths, of Baldwin Street, and Edwin “Weed” Tucker, of Woolsey Court, are seeking re-election. Their GOP challengers are Mark Blackwell, of North Main Street, and Stewart Schwab, of South Main Street.
In Hopewell Township, Republicans Matthew Holley, of Reservoir Road, and Eileen McGinnis, of Harbourton-Woodsville Road, are challenging incumbent Democrats John Murphy, of New Road, and Vanessa Sandom, of Harbourton Ridge Drive, for two Township Committee seats (three-year terms).
In Hopewell Borough, Republicans Robert Lewis, of West Broad Street, and C. Schuyler “Sky” Morehouse, of East Prospect Street, are running unopposed to retain their seats (three-year terms) on Borough Council.
At the forum, each candidate will have an opportunity to make opening and closing statements and then answer questions from the public. At the close of the program, residents will be able to meet informally with the candidates.
Those unable to attend the forum can watch it live, or catch it later on cable TV. The 90-minute forum will be televised on Channel 19 throughout the Valley for Comcast viewers, and on Channel 32 for Verizon customers. The live broadcast will run from 7:30-9 p.m. on Oct. 15. Rebroadcasts begin Oct. 17, and will continue through Nov. 3, on the following schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.; and Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m.
The general election is Nov. 4. Polls will be open from 6 a.m.-8 p.m.
