The Lawrence High School girls soccer team suffered two tough losses in its most recent games.
Against Robbinsville on Tuesday night at Mercer County Community College Stadium, the Cardinals fell behind early and never managed to rally.
Lawrence played competitively against Princeton on Saturday, but a penalty kick in the final 10 minutes decided the game for the Little Tigers.
Robbinsville built an early three goal lead as Lawrence struggled a bit in the first half.
”In that first half we didn’t come out ready to play and we paid the price,” said Lawrence coach Dave Bogs. In the second half, “we played a lot harder, we were knocking passes around and I think we played better as a team in the second half.”
Boggs cited senior Annie Turkowski for her efforts in the game, saying she had a great game and played aggressively from the start.
”We played a physical game,” said Turkowski. “We just had to keep pressuring the ball, we weren’t winning the 50-50 balls. In the second half we played more offensive and made it more than just a defensive game.”
The Ravens kept the Cardinals scoreless and added a fourth and final goal in the final minute.
Lawrence worked hard to limit Princetion’s offense in a game Saturday, but could not counter a penalty kick late in the game.
”It was a tough one,” said Boggs. “We got called for a PK with 10 minutes left and that’s how they won. We played really well against Princeton.”
Lawrence goalie Nicole Krawczyk kept the Cardinals in the game against Princeton with 19 saves as the Little Tigers led in shots, 20-3.
Jen Korngut scored the game-winner as Lawrence edged Trenton, 1-0, on Friday.
Erica Scardelletti provided the assist on Korngut’s second-half goal.
