Marliese Kupferschmid Dodd, 75, of North Brunswick, died Monday, Oct. 6, at home after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.
Born in Zurich, Switzerland, she was raised in Durbheim, Germany. Following her graduation from Berufliche Gewerbe Schule in Spaichinge, Germany where she specialized in tailoring and fashion design, she came to the United States in 1953 where she married Frank W Dodd. She then moved to Kendall Park, and raised their four children. She was employed by South Brunswick Board of Education for 25 years as a paraprofessional. She then moved to North Brunswick in 1985.
Her parents, Stephan and Elisabeth Kupferschmid, sister Silvia Baier, son Robert R. Dodd, and former husband Frank W. Dodd, are deceased. She is survived by her sons, Frank S. Dodd of Islamorada, Fla., and Carey K. Dodd and wife, Susan, and their sons, Dylan and Nolan of Freehold; her daughter, Sharon Dodd Heiart and her husband, Mark, and son Jake, of Ewing; a brother, Siegfried Kupferschmid and wife, Linda, of Newport, Vt.; a brother, Karl Kupferschmid and wife, Doris, of Durbheim, Germany; sister-in-law, Barbara Dodd Remsen of Van Nuys, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered by her many friends and extended family as “Oma,” for her warmth, kindness and creativity. Numerous wedding parties were graced by gowns she designed and sewed. The lives of hundreds of students have been enriched by her compassion and dedication.
The funeral will be held Friday, Oct. 10, at 9 a.m. at the M.J. Murphy funeral home 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction. A Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at St. Cecilia’s Church 10 Kingston Lane Monmouth Junction. Calling hours will be held today (Friday), Oct. 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Park North Brunswick.
