Teens show ‘real faith’ on TV

With its second prestigious Gabriel Award announced, and a fall lineup of compelling and relevant program topics, teen talk-show Realfaith TV is reaching out again this year with real faith answers to the real life questions that teens face every day.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Trenton, through its Office of Radio and Television, produces the 30-minute show Realfaith TV, which can be seen on the Comcast Network, with the support, talent and dedication of hundreds of teenagers who volunteer their time during their summer breaks.
Hailing from the Dioceses of Trenton, Metuchen, Camden and Paterson, and from the Archdioceses of Newark and Philadelphia, and from other Christian denominations, the young men and women of Realfaith serve as hosts, studio guests, spotlight guests, “teen-on- the- street” interviewers, floor managers, equipment operators and directors.
Now in its ninth season, Realfaith TV airs on the Comcast Network in Philadelphia and New Jersey, as well as other local cable stations. It can also be seen in some of the largest media markets in the country, including New York City, Boston and Detroit, and is broadcast in Harrisburg, Pa., and Baton Rouge, La. In addition, the show streams live on its Web site, www.realfaithtv.com.
Realfaith TV’s new season features such topics as “The Ten Commandments of Driving,” “Are Your Friends a Good or Bad Influence?,” “Does My Vote Count? Why Should I Vote?,” and “Distinguishing Faith from Superstition.”
With 13 episodes scheduled for fall and 13 for spring, Realfaith covers everything from culture, as in a discussion about movies and reading, to social challenges, such as friendships, breakups and gossip, to global issues, like welcoming immigrants, forgiveness as a path to peace, and eco-activism.
As in all Realfaith episodes, the teens explore these topics by discussing questions and beliefs among themselves in the studio, through on-location interviews with other teens at the Seaside Heights Boardwalk, and an interview of a spotlight guest with a unique experience or knowledge of the subject.
Princeton-area teens are well- represented on the Realfaith team, including Christopher Adair, Christina Dunne, Alison Puzio, Matthew Puzio, Ciara Schoenauer and Andrew Washuta, all from West Windsor, joining young people from Hamilton, Hightstown, Lawrence and Trenton.
In addition, Nancy Riddell, director of youth ministry at the Church of St. David the King in West Windsor, serves as Realfaith’s in-studio spiritual adviser.
