Colts avenge loss, roar into playoffs

MYAL FOOTBALL

Sunday afternoon the Manville Colts were able to leave Gerber Field victorious. Clark was handed its first defeat of the season, and the Colts were able to redeem their season opening loss with a tight 12-6 victory.
Clark started ahead by running the opening kickoff back for its only score of the game but the PAT failed, leaving the visitors up 6-0. Now it was time for the Colts to get to work with captains Joey Veglatte, Matias Gualtieri and Altaron Robinson leading the way.
Although the offense sputtered at times, the running of Gualtieri, Robinson, Andre Heredia, Veglatte, LJ Abner totaled 230 yards and two touchdowns. Gualtieri had both TDs with some tough running on a hard hitting Clark defense.
The Colts defense looked solid with Veglatte leading the way with six tackles including one sack. Also playing solid defense were Robinson, Jake Babich, Jake Caswell, Isiah Morgan and LJ Abner. Clark fumbles were recovered by Morgan, Abner, Babich and Mergum Berisha, who also had four tackles on the day. All of Berisha’s tackles came at the right time stopping Clark drives. His tackles were low and they dropped the running back on contact.
The Colts finished the season at 7-1 and will return to Kenilworth next Sunday for a rematch in the first round of the Raritan Valley Conference playoffs.

Pintos fall in
season finale
The Manville Pintos lost to undefeated Clark in Sunday’s final game of the season.
The whole team played hard and didn’t give up despite the score. The Pintos just couldn’t get anything going, especially with key running back Kyle Puza out with an injury in the first half. The team played a tough team but never gave up. This group of kids came a long way from the first game and improved each week.
All the coaches praised the whole team for having a great year and would like to thank all the parents and friends for supporting us all season.
