Richard J. Carmosino of Lambertville
Regarding the recent article in The Beacon, “Property values on rise in city,.” there were two points that were misunderstood.
The first was the effective date of the reassessment. The Beacon stated it was effective July 2010; the correct date is July 2009 for the Aug. 1 tax bill.
The other point of interest is that higher assessments do not usually mean higher taxes. Taxes are determined by budgets and not assessments.
The assessments are the base, but the budget of various governments agencies determine the amount of monies to be raised from the taxes.
In actuality, the Lambertville tax rate, thanks to the expertise of Mayor (David) Del Vecchio, only increased by 6 cents, going from $1.57 per $100 to $1.63.
