An article in the Oct. 10 Baltimore Sun describes how McCormick & Company plans to cut electricity costs by 30 percent. The plan is risk free. The capital cost will be zero.
That’s right, no up front capital costs to McCormick.
Constellation Energy has been contracted to cover their building’s roofs with solar panels. Constellation will own and operate the panels. Electricity generated will be sold to McCormick, usually at a fixed rate for 20 years. Additional savings happen as the cost of not buying outside utility electricity rises over the years.
Constellation is able to do this by virtue of a 30 percent federal tax credit. Purchase of rooftop solar energy for all municipal and school buildings should be seriously and urgently considered. This will reduce energy bills and save taxpayers large amounts of money — all risk free with no up-front costs.
