To the editor:
On Election Day, the residents of Manville will be making an important decision regarding two seats on the Borough Council.
I encourage you to look no further than incumbents Kathryn Quick and Steve Szabo. Together they epitomize the spirit and intent of public service and have the experience necessary to help guide Manville through these challenging economic times.
Ms. Quick and Mr. Szabo have taken positive and meaningful steps in a professional way, to address municipal problems since they were elected to office three years ago. They have proposed and supported the flat operating budget system that has been in placed for each of the past three years and have instituted a policy by which each department head must present and justify expenses to the Finance Committee.
What has come from this is a carefully planned budget while still maintaining the position of Manville having the third lowest property taxes in Somerset County.
Ms. Quick and Mr. Szabohave a positive and working relationship with the New Jersey State Legislative delegation representing Manville in Trenton, and, in fact, were instrumental along with Mayor Zuza in preserving the state aid for 2008 in the face of cuts to other municipalities. This level of collaborative cooperation should be maintained by their re-election.
Vision and action have been the standards by which Mr. Szabo and Ms. Quick have operated during their term in office. Continuing this leadership by reelecting them to a second term is now more important than ever.
Peter J. Biondi
Assemblyman
