Patrolman Todd Sparks, a Lawrence Township police officer, has been charged with theft for stealing money from the Police Benevolent Association, according to published reports.
The 41-year-old patrolman, who is a PBA delegate, took $500 to $8,000 from the PBA coffers, according to reports. He was charged by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office last week following an investigation into the thefts. The thefts occurred over a period of time.
Lawrence police spokesman Lt. Charles B. Edgar said Patrolman Sparks has been suspended without pay from his job, pending the outcome of the charge. The police officer, who is a 16-year veteran of the Lawrence Township Police Department, earns $95,777.
Patrolman Sparks could be sentenced to three to five years in prison if he is convicted, according to published reports. The police officer is free on his own recognizance.
