EAST WINDSOR The Township Economic Development Committee recently raised more than $14,000 for the construction of a YMCA community center during a charity golf tournament.
The tournament, held Sept. 25 at the Peddie Golf Course, attracted nearly 60 participants and was a “great success,” said EDC Chairman Shepperd Massar.
”Not only did we raise money, but everyone involved had a great time,” Mr. Massar added.
Mr. Massar said he hopes the golf tournament will become an annual event.
The money raised through the tournament is earmarked for construction of a community center in the township.
Discussions regarding a YMCA in East Windsor are approaching the two-year mark, with Cynthia Joy, president and chief executive of the YMCA of Western Monmouth County, and Mayor Janice Mironov, expressing mutual interest.
Mayor Mironov said she also was pleased with how the event turned out.
”The members of the Economic Development Committee, in planning out this first-time event, really did an outstanding job,” she said.
