Lightning enjoying great season

REC SOCCER

Manville Recreation’s Lightning soccer team is burning up the fields as they have won their last three games. The fifth and sixth graders are taking their talents and putting them to good use on the soccer field.
The Lightning went up against Bridgewater Kings and with their teamwork, won the game 7-2. Kieran Green, Chris Garcia and Jose all scored twice with Tony pitching in with a goal. The defense was tough in keeping their opponent from getting anywhere in the Lightning territory.
The following week, the Lightning went onto play the Bridgewater Pistons getting their second win of 5-2. Bruno Riga, Kevin Flores, Gabriel Berrocal and Michael Zangara, along with Green, Garcia and Jose took the field again with their teammates to keep the ball down in Pistons territory.
The Lightning scored first in first few minutes of the game. There were many shots but some failed. Pistons goalie caught a few but Devin Gardner wouldn’t let the Pistons’ ball get into the net. Garcia scored with a pass from Zangara followed by a goal from Berrocal. At the half, Lightning was leading 3-0.
Manville got back onto the field with Jason Guevara taking Gardner’s place in the net while Gardner went to play in the field. The Pistons scored and the Lightning came right back with a goal scored by Garcia. Megan Jenkins, Amanda Mendez, Niku Hodge, Shivana DeSani, Rachel Breese and Marco all helped their team with great offense and defense. Zangara scored and Pistons scored another goal ending the game with a 5-2 score.
The Lightning came back again Oct. 11 with another win, this time over the Bridgewater Titans. After a late game start, the Lightning team took a little while to get going. The Titans scored their one and only goal of the game and the Lightning went on to play a great game.
Flores, Garcia, Tony, Berrocal, Zangara and Jose all took the ball down the field. There were many shots but most failed. Gardner kept the Titans away from the Lightning net with the help of defenders Guevara, Mendez, Hodge, Jenkins and DeSani. Newcomer Tiffany Rio also helped the team. Manville had an indirect kick but failed to score.
The Lightning did get lucky when the Titans kicked an own goal giving the team the lead. Guevara went into the net at the second half. The Lightning got another chance with and indirect kick but it failed once again. They had many missed attempts during this half. During that time, Jose, Garcia and Green each scored making the final score 5-1.
The Lightning was back in action in a game at Bradley Gardens School in Bridgewater against the Bucs.
McFadden goals
keep team unbeaten
Two early goals by Antonio McFadden set Manville Recreation’s third and fourth grade soccer team on the path to a 4-1 victory over Bridgewater on Saturday and kept the team undefeated for the season so far.
Bridgewater answered back with a shot that just rolled over the line. Third-grader Randy Fallas then scored on a pass from teammate Marco Ortiz to end the first half 3-1 for Manville.
Defense for both sides worked hard in the second half to keep each other scoreless. However, Steven Garcia was able to score when he rebounded a Bridgewater goal kick.
Manville, now 6-0, will meet the Bridgewater Kings this Saturday.
