Jonathan Katz, Bordentown Township
To the editor:
Over the past week or so, I have read the letters submitted by certain individuals running for the Bordentown Township Committee. Because of what I believe to be certain inaccuracies espoused by these individuals, I felt compelled to write to express my support for Mayor Bruce Hill, Deputy Mayor Rob Delaney and Committeewoman Anita DiMattia, who are running for reelection to the Township Committee.
I have only lived in Bordentown Township for the past five years, but I currently serve as the president of one of the four homeowners associations in Clifton Mill. Because of that position, I have made an effort to attend as many of the Township Committee meetings as possible and to work with our elected officials for the benefit of both the Clifton Mill community and the Township as a whole. Like many of you, I have a job and a family, yet I take time out of my schedule to attend these meetings because I feel I should be informed as to what is going on in the township. While I understand people have busy schedules and cannot always make these meetings, there are often times I have attended these meetings alone or with only one or two members of the public. It is unfortunate that more residents do not attend these meetings because they do not get to see first hand the hard work and dedication that Mayor Hill, Deputy Mayor Delaney and Committeewoman DiMattia (in the short time she has been on the committee) put into representing our interests.
Quite frankly, I find the recent attacks alleging that the actions of the current committee have not represented the best interests of the township to be outrageous. In my opinion, Mayor Hill, Deputy Mayor Delaney and Committeewoman DiMattia have always made themselves available to the public and have gone above and beyond the call of duty to respond to the needs of the township. And while I have read these unfounded attacks claiming that we need more open government, I ask them why they have not bothered to attend a Township Committee meeting to express these opinions? Where were they when the current committee fought the Transco pipeline? Where were they while the current committee has been attempting to negotiate with the Turnpike Administration for the last two years? Have they even offered any solutions of their own? I have certainly seen nothing that would change my opinion. Change can be a good thing, when it is warranted – change for the sake of change is foolish. Because these individuals have no idea what this committee has done and continues to work toward, how can anyone take their rhetoric seriously?
In conclusion, Mayor Hill, Deputy Mayor Delaney and Committeewoman DiMattia deserve our support to ensure that we continue making Bordentown Township a great place to live.
