ALLENTOWN — Allentown High School is one of the top 100 high schools in the state, according to New Jersey Monthly magazine.
The school was ranked 90th out of 316 New Jersey high schools — and fourth in Monmouth County — on a list recently published in the magazine.
Principal Christopher Nagy called the ranking a “phenomenal feat” during last week’s Board of Education meeting, and said the district is very proud.
”Allentown High School is a dynamic learning community that is providing a 21st century education to our students, and in turn, providing a great return investment to our local communities in the educational system,” he said.
The rankings are based on data from the Department of Education 2006-2007 School Report Card, specifically school environment; student performance on the SATs, High School Proficiency Assessments (HSPA) and Advanced Placement tests; and the number of students graduating and moving on to college.
Allentown High School, located on High Street, was among the top schools in Monmouth County, preceded only by Holmdel High School (11th), Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (30th) and Red Bank Regional High School (64th).
The school, which opened in 1972, rose 13 places from its 2006 ranking, when the list was last published. Dr. Nagy said based on improvements in curriculum and instruction, he anticipates Allentown High School’s ranking to continue to rise.
New Egypt High School, located on Evergreen Road in Plumsted, was ranked 193rd. Robbinsville High School, which ended a send-receive relationship with Lawrence High School when it opened in 2005, was not included on the list because it did not have a graduating class in 2007.
