Shapella kept his promises

John Marshall of West Amwell
I would like to take this opportunity, two weeks before Election Day, to thank Ron Shapella for his last three years of selfless service to West Amwell Township.
His leadership and participation in the issues important to the families of our community have greatly improved our ability to preserve and maintain open space and maintain a low tax base.
He successfully spearheaded the battle against Trenton when the state tried to take approximately a million dollars from our budget. Ron Shapella rewrote the Wastewater Management Plan to removed the sewer service area and preserves the West Amwell rural quality of life.
Ron, being a taxpayer himself, has fought hard to minimize the impact of the increases of unfunded state mandates and higher fuel cost on the township.
In regard to our police force, I have spoken to Ron and agree with his concerns of a shared service with Lambertville. But in order to avoid a repeat of this year’s fiscal crisis, the Township Committee agreed to conduct a state funded study on the matter.
Ron has worked many hours with a handful of other residents on many different committees to insure our community does not turn into an over-developed eyesore like many of our local municipalities.
We all moved to West Amwell to live a quit country life in a safe community.
Over-population on land that cannot support water runoff will only cause expensive problems for current resident, of course, with no benefit to us.
I am a registered Republican voter, although I consider myself a liberal Republican. I’m a McCain supporter as far as national and international leadership.
But in regards to local affairs, Ron Shapella and the current committee, in my opinion, best represent the voice of the families of West Amwell.
His record is clear, and he has kept every promise he has made while serving us.
His only agenda is to work for the good of all of our residents, both life-long and new.
In closing, as I have stated so many times, the right to vote has been earned with American blood. Many men and women have sacrificed much and sometimes all for our freedom to chose.
It is our duty to honor them by exercising that right and having your voice heard.
Nov. 4, do your duty as a citizen of this great country and vote. If you have a child care issue, take them with you and let them see the process.
