FLORENCE — Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred at 9:19 a.m. Wednesday at the Sterling Bank on Broad Street.
Police said a man entered the bank and announced that the bank was being robbed. Although the robber did not display a weapon, police said he made hand movements underneath his clothing suggesting that he might be carrying one.
Police said the man fled from the bank heading toward East Second Street. Police did not say how much money was taken from the bank.
Police described the robber as a black man with a medium complexion in his late 20s or early 30s, with short brown hair, and approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. Police said he had facial hair along his chin line with a goatee, and was wearing a tan knit hat with a brim, and a tan oversized jacket with a brown knit collar and cuffs and a white T-shirt, white sneakers, and baggy denim jeans. The man was wearing white knit gloves with blue rubber grips on the palm and fingertips.
Florence Police Chief Stephen Fazekas said Thursday that a monetary reward is being offered for information leading the identification and arrest of the robber. He said that the amount of money to be rewarded is yet to be determined.
Anyone with information should contact Florence Township Police Detective Bureau at 609-499-3131.
