Manville High School Class of 1998 will celebrate its10 year reunion. The reunion will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Nov. 29 at Mia Sorella Restaurant on Main Street in Manville. Calling all grandparents A grandparents’ support group is now forming for any interested grandparent. It will encompass areas such as lack of contact, estrangement, general grand parenting issues and other topics of interest to the group. If you are a grandparent and are interested in sharing concerns with others, call Counseling and Therapy Services weekdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at 218-9062.
Single Mothers Helping Single Mothers A new support group for single mothers meets at Chuck E. Cheese, Bridgewater Promenade the first Thursday of the month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The goal is to become the best parents possible through education, group support, group discussion and networking. Hillsborough High School alumni are invited to join the newly-formed Hillsborough Alumni Club. The club will have a display table at the Homecoming football game at Hillsborough High School tonight, with a sign-up sheet, snacks and giveaways for all alumni of HHS. Somerville Knight’s of Columbus 37th annual Charity Dinner will be held at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Byzantine Church, Brooks Boulevard, Hillsborough with the proceeds benefiting the Leukemia Foundation of Northern/Central New Jersey. A tricky tray auction to benefit the Giving Network will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2290 on Washington Avenue. The Giving Network was started in 1999 to assist disaster victims after Hurricane Floyd. It is an all-volunteer organization that collects donated household goods and delivers them to people in need in Somerset County. The network also picks up food donations from a local supermarket twice each week for delivery to homeless shelters, the Food Bank Network, the Bound Brook Food Pantry and two Senior Centers. Admission is $10, and includes a sheet of tickets and refreshments. Attendees will find unique and creative baskets to win, each with a value of at least $25. Somerville-Raritan-Manville Health Department Flu Clinics for all adults ages 18 and older. The flu shots are free for older adults with traditional Medicare Part B (bring your Medicare card), not HMO/Managed Care Medicare. For all other adults, a flu shot is $25. A flu clinic will be held today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Raritan Borough Hall (22 First Street). An evening clinic will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Somerville Senior Citizen Building. A Polish dinner sponsored by the Manville Exempt Fireman’s Association to be held from 3 p.m. 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at Manville Firehouse no. 1 on South Third Avenue. The cost will be $10 and will include kielbasa and sauerkraut, stuffed cabbage, pierogis, cabbage and noodles, soda and coffee. Tickets will be available at the door. Rock Hip-Hop Fest at the Veterans of Foreign Wards Post 2290, 600 Washington Ave, Manville, from 7 p.m. 10 p.m. Nov. 1. This free concert will include a variety of artists, including Christian rapper Harold B., whose video “Clap 2 This” was named best video of the year in 2005 by the American Gospel Music Association; Runaway and The Royal Guard.
The annual Election Day Turkey Dinner will once again take place Nov. 4 at Neshanic United Methodist Church, Maple Street (across from the post office). The Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease Support Group meets at Open Arms Day Club, 195 W. High Street, Somerville, on the second Saturday and third Wednesday of each month. Neshanic Garden Club will hold the monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Nov. 20 at the Station House on Olive Street, Neshanic Station.
