Gift auction
Friday, Oct. 24 — Christ Episcopal Church of Bordentown will sponsor a gift auction at the Bordentown Township Community Center, 3 Municipal Drive. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the auction will start at 6:30 p.m. There will be lots of great prizes, theater and sporting tickets, gift cerificates, household items, and more. Entry is $5. Author to speak
Friday, Oct. 24 — Author and clinical psychologist Dr. Eileen Kennedy-Moore will be speaking at the Hamilton Barnes & Noble at 7 p.m. about “The 5 People Skills Every Child Needs to Learn.” The event is sponsored by the PEP/ELPAT Parent’s Group of the Bordentown Regional School District and is free to the public. Oyster dinner
Saturday, Oct. 25 — Reservations are now being accepted for the annual Hedding United Methodist Church Oyster Supper. The date is Saturday, Oct. 25 with seatings every half hour from 3 to 7 p.m. The price for adults is $21 and $10 for children 5 years to 12 years old (children under 5 are free).
Reservations must be made in advance by calling Claudia Teal at 609-324-0729. Also the church bazaar will be held in the church basement with a variety of handmade items such as quilts, pillows, placemats, etc. and baked goods. Our famous pepper relish, which is served at the supper, will be sold at the bazaar. The church is located at the intersection of Old York Road and Hedding-Kinkora Road in Mansfield Township.
Economic program
Saturday, Oct. 25 — Are you scared, nervous or frustrated about the current events in the market and the economy? You are not alone! The Bordentown Library will present a free program on Saturday, Oct. 25 titled: Surviving the Volatile Market. This program will be presented by Professor Ramesh Kajaria of Drexel University. Come and attend this one hour workshop to understand what is going on and ask questions that you want answers to.

Halloween party
Saturday, Oct. 25 — Fernbrook Farms Education Center continues its family programs with a “Not-So-Scary” Halloween party on Oct. 25 and again on Saturday, Nov. 1. Halloween parade
Sunday, Oct. 26 — Preparations for the annual Bordentown City Halloween Parade have begun. The Halloween Parade will take place at 2 p.m. Oct. 26 with a rain date of Sunday, Nov. 2.
Organizers are looking for floats, marching groups, bands, etc. to join the parade. The committee led by Steve McGowan of Consolidated Fire Association is hoping to see some of the newcomers from last year’s anniversary parade join it in creating a float for the Halloween Parade. Halloween costume contest will take place the day of the parade in front of St Mary’s School on Elizabeth Street at 1 p.m. before the parade; no registration is required for the costume contest. Halloween House Decorating contest will take place the Saturday before the parade, more details to follow.
Wood’s Tea Company

Earth Talk
Tuesday, Oct. 28 — A sreening of “Crash: A Tale of Two Species,” the National Geographic film about the unique interdependence of two NJ endangered species: the red knot and the horseshoe crab, will be held at 7 p.m. Bordentown City residents and wildlife biologists Larry Niles and Amanda Dey, stars of the film, will share their thoughts about their travels to the Jersey Shore and the Arctic to research these species. Scholarship seminar

Harvest Fair
Thursday, Oct. 30 — Florence Township Education Association is sponsoring a Fall Harvest Fair. Admission is a canned good for our school wide food drive. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The program will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Riverfront School, 500 East Front St. The program will start with parents and students attending a workshop on Homework and Study Skills. The Florence Township Police Department will also host an informative workshop on Cyber Bullying for parents.
Kids can join us for spooky stories, games and treats while parents are attending workshops. As an added treat, all will have an opportunity to learn about the Fall Constellations and see other space objects through our telescope.

Holiday bazaar
Sunday, Nov. 2 — Bordentown Elks Post 2085 is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, and on Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Woman’s Auxilary will help by having a Holiday Bazaar. It will be held in the lower ballroom at the Elks located on 11 Amboy Road, Bordentown. Tables will be provided and will cost $30 per table.
Faith and food
Thursday, Nov. 6 — An interfaith forum will be held at Dorothea Dix Unitarian Universalist Community in the hall of United Methodist Church of Crosswicks at the intersection of Ward Avenue and Church Street. This is the latest in a series of meetings of the Greater Bordentown Interfaith Dialogue. All are welcome.
A panel of leaders involved in feeding the hungry, will tell of their mission, the current situation and their concerns. They are from many area churches, the Islamic community, Temple B’Nai Abraham, the Food bank at St. Mary’s, Presbytery of Monmouth, Crosswicks Quaker Meeting, and Crisis Ministry, as well as HomeFront, Good Neighbor Guild, Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK), Rescue Mission of Trenton, and lay members of local churches who prepare and deliver meals to mothers and children temporarily housed in area motels.

Veterans Day Services
Tuesday, Nov. 11 — The Florence Township area veterans organizations have announced plans for Veterans Day services. American Legion Post 194 will begin with a service at the monument at Broad and Front streets at 11 a.m. They will be joined by American Legion Post 39 and VFW Post 8838 at 11:30 a.m. at the monument at Veterans Park near the Municipal Building. The Honorable George Sampson will be the speaker. At the conclusion of the service, light refreshments will be served at Post 194.
Monthly meeting
Tuesday, Nov. 11 — The Willitts-Hogan-Tonne American Legion Auxiliary Unit 39 will hold their monthly meeting at the Post Home on Fourth Avenue, Roebling, beginning at 7 p.m. Plans for the annual Christmas dinner will be announced. All members are encouraged to attend.
Book discussions
Wednesday, Nov. 12 — Book discussions are held the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Bordentown Library, East Union Street, in Bordentown City.
On Nov. 12, “Plague of Doves” by Louise Erdrich will be up for discussion.
In this book, a community on an Ojibwe reservation in rural North Dakota is the center of a story of redemption, murder and vengeance in the unfolding mystery of a 1911 slaughter of a farming family near the small town of Pluto. Erdrich’s narrators unravel the stories of different generations and families that finally come together in a heart-wrenching conclusion.
Tot Shabbat
Friday, Nov. 14 — Temple B’nai Abraham (at 58 Crosswicks St., Bordentown City) will hold Tot Shabbat services from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Designed for children ages 1-6, this is a simplified Friday night service followed by a potluck dinner and a themed story and craft. Friday, Nov. 14 — The Florence Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 will hold a hoagie and meatball sandwich sale from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 14 and from 11 a .m. until they sell out on Saturday, Nov. 15.
The hoagies available will be Italian, American and tuna. The price is $6 for either a hoagie or meatball sandwich which includes a beverage and a bag of chips.

Trail walk
Saturday, Nov. 15 — Join the naturalist and historian of Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park in a walk along the newly opened trail on Duck Island.
