MONROE — Police have arrested an engaged couple who they say committed a string of burglaries and thefts in the township.
Jeffrey Ankosko, 21, of East Brunswick, and Nicole Cecora, 20, of Manalapan, allegedly targeted homes during daylight hours in the burglaries, committed in early October, according to Monroe police.
Police said the couple was responsible for two burglaries on Federal Road on Oct. 3 and 7. In the first instance, police said the resident arrived home while the two were at the house. Police said that as the suspects fled, Cecora rammed her car into the victim’s truck, which blocked the way. The suspects eventually got away after jumping the curb and driving across the victim’s lawn.
In the Oct. 7 incident, the couple reportedly removed two flat-screen television sets, computers, iPods and jewelry from the home. Most of the items would later be recovered from Ankosko’s house in East Brunswick, police said.
Though police said they developed good descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle during the investigation, they could not locate the suspects without a license plate number.
The break in the case came on Oct. 14, according to police, when Cecora reportedly drove her 2002 Pontiac Grand Am to the HeritageChase development. There, she allegedly broke into a house and stole numerous items including jewelry and electronics. Police said it was then that detectives developed new information, including the license plate number, and from there, her address.
Police arrested Cecora in Monroe later that night, and officers allegedly found 56 decks of heroin in her possession. Ankosko was arrested at the same time in East Brunswick. Both were charged with burglary and theft, and Cecora was additionally charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute.
Ankosko was lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center, North Brunswick, with bail set at $50,000. Cecora was held on $125,000 bail.
