Ed Zimmerman, Mayor of Rocky Hill
It’s no secret that this has been a very difficult year for Rocky Hill with regards to actions by Trenton. First there is the threatened disbanding of our school district without voter input, then the arbitrary cuts in aid that raised our property taxes just because of our size, then the new round of COAH obligation that mistakenly overestimated our employment numbers. If that wasn’t enough, we are now faced with another state mandated tax increase to pay for state police services that we are already paying for.
The mayor and Borough Council have worked collaboratively and truly in a non-partisan spirit to get us through these difficult issues and to protect our borough from the uneven hand of Trenton. We have also worked well together on more positive issues like sidewalk repair, recreation facilities and shared services. I’m proud of our council, their intellect, their determination and most of all their willingness to put the good of the borough above all else, whether we agree on all issues or not.
All of this is why the upcoming election is so important. We need to continue to work together and be careful not slide back into the partisanship that tore us apart for so many years. Council members Julia Hasser and Courtney White have done a great job this year and I believe, regardless of party affiliation, it is in the best interest of the borough to bring them back to help me finish resolving our issues with the state.
I have had the opportunity to meet with candidate Mark Pausch on several occasions and I have found him to be extremely intelligent, professional and very organized. He has easily convinced me that he is not running for any partisan purpose or personal political gain, but to step up and help his borough in anyway he can. Mr. Pausch is not one the recycled names you see on our ballot year after year, he is a fresh mind that is aware of the issues we face and believes he can make a difference. As a molecular pharmacologist, Mr. Pausch’s job is to lead teams of scientists in identifying and solving complex problems through hard work and effective collaboration. This is exactly the type of teamwork and leadership we need in Rocky Hill at this time.
In a presidential election as divided as this, it is sometimes easy to vote down the party line without really considering the bottom of the ticket. I ask the voters of Rocky Hill to take a moment and truly evaluate the four candidates running for the three council seats. If they do, I am sure they would agree with me that Julia Hasser (R), Courtney White (I) and Mark Pausch (I) are the best choice for Rocky Hill given the current circumstances.
Lastly, I would like to thank the citizens of Rocky Hill for their continued support and kind words throughout this very difficult year. Please vote. Please volunteer.
Ed Zimmerman, Mayor
Rocky Hill Borough
