MANVILLE — A 22-year-old Green Brook man is listed in good condition at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, following an accident Friday that pinned his foot under a train.
Police received an emergency call about a man with an injured foot near the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks near North Street and North Seventh Avenue around 2:37 a.m. Friday, and upon arriving at the scene, police reported seeing two men near a stopped train.
Police reported that the injured man, Kason Farnella, said he and a friend were walking near the tracks and decided to climb on a slow-moving freight train.
While attempting to climb on the train, Mr. Farnella’s foot slipped off the step, and got caught under the train.
Hospital officials could not release any additional information about the condition of Mr. Farnella’s foot.
Police said that Mr. Farnella had been drinking prior to the incident.
Police reported calling the rescue squad and mobile intensive care unit to the scene. Mr. Farnella was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Norfolk Southern railroad representatives were also notified.
Trespassing charges from Norfolk Southern Railroad are pending, police said.
The incident follows increased efforts by Manville and railroad police to patrol the railroad tracks and reduce trespassing, launched in July.
