HILLSBOROUGH — Soon, renewing Fido’s license will be as easy as renewing your car’s registration.
The Township Committee on Oct. 14 unanimously approved a resolution allowing Internet transactions and online payments for dog licenses, as well as payments of property taxes, as of 2009.
”We are trying to make the best use of our online services,” Mayor Anthony Ferrera said.
Residents will be able to renew dog licenses online as of January, using either credit cards or transfers from checking accounts, using the Automated Clearing House withdrawal system.
”Allowing dog licensing to be done over the Web is certainly a huge benefit for the many dog owners in Hillsborough by making a trip to the municipal building unnecessary,” Committeeman Bob Wagner said. “This is another fine example of making government more available to residents.”
In addition to the dog licenses, changes online will allow residents to make tax payments mainly for property taxes and recreation fees using credit cards through an Internet program beginning with payments due Feb. 1.
Mayor Ferrera said Tuesday these steps are part of his continuing effort to use electronic communications to create convenience for residents who may not be able to get to the municipal building during normal business hours.
”Ordinances are now published on the township’s Web site, as I called for,” he said. “Recreation registration is now being done over the Internet, with the use of credit and debit cards, saving busy parents from having to come to the municipal building and stand in line to sign children up for recreation programs.”
