Having been an Election Board worker for almost 30 years, I can say with assurance that, on Election Day, there will be some who vote only for the presidential candidate and none of the other candidates.
I’m writing to appeal to those voters to also give their attention and vote to candidates for all levels of government.
This year we will be voting for every level of government from the local municipal council right on up to the president of our very blessed country. It so happens that, while I’ve never met Sen. Obama, I do know all the other Democratic candidates very well and so I confidently support the entire ticket and urge others to do so too.
I know each candidate to be mindful of the needs of his/her constituency and to be sincerely willing to make meeting those needs their focus.
I would especially like to note Carol Barrett, Charles Carley and Joseph Camarota for Township Council. They are 60 percent of a team that has led South Brunswick very, very well for several critical years.
Those who watch council meetings on Channel 3 can see how responsive that team is to each and every community member. And this is not just to persons who come and appeal at the meetings. They are listening all the time, by making themselves available at community activities and/or by carrying out their committee/organization liaison duties as well as more direct communication with citizens.
Through the current Democratic mayor/council team effort, our township governance has been mindful of the residential growth begun back in the late ‘80s. Though they are committed to stemming that growth as much as they are legally able, they have worked well together to see to the necessary services, facilities, and ordinances it takes to ensure a robust quality of life for all of our citizens. And I do mean all: every age group, every economic strata, every recreational interest, those able and disabled.
Voting is a right, a privilege and a civic duty. It is the mechanism by which we determine to what extent we have good government. We do this by choosing persons who serve with a sincere heart and not a personal agenda.
