Lucia Stout Huebner, farmer, Beechtree Farm
I am writing to urge you to vote yes to preserve farmland, open space and historic resources in our Valley. It may seem counterintuitive to vote yes to an additional 1-cent tax in these fearsome economic times. But this is a classic example of “a stitch in time saves nine.” The more farmland and open space we save now, the less municipal services we will need in the future. So your yes vote is a vote to keep property taxes lower in the future.
And then there is the aesthetic and spiritual benefit of preserving our farm fields and forests. If you feel downhearted when you pass a field sprouting homes as its’ last crop, then now is the time to vote yes for preservation. And when you are done voting, take a walk on one of our local trails to get relief from the stress of this election before returning to the news!
