Princeton Borough breaks ground on 5 low-income housing units

Princeton Borough held groundbreaking ceremonies Tuesday for five new affordable housing units on Leigh Avenue.
The new low-income units will be constructed on borough-owned property by Princeton University and will replace a five-unit rental apartment building.
The project was a result of a 2007 developers agreement with the university to address an affordable housing requirement due from the university as a result of the growth share requirement from the construction of Sherrerd Hall, which was recently completed.
The total cost to date is $2,132,837, all of which is being funded by the university, according to the borough.
The five apartments consist of one one-bedroom unit, three two-bedroom units and one three-bedroom unit. All will have central air conditioning and four will have basements.
The property was designed to fit in with the existing streetscape, according to the borough, with on-site parking for five vehicles. Zoning approval was granted in May.
The project was designed by architect Robert Ceruti and is being constructed by The Yedlin Co. The project is being managed by Princeton Community Housing.
