Sean W. Pfeiffer of West Amwell
I am writing in response to last week’s letter signed by former West Amwell mayors.
First, the letter suggests the mayors are currently of different political parties. Regardless of what party affiliations they may have had decades ago, all are currently registered Republicans as am I.
Second, the letter states, “Tom Molnar has assured us that he will respect the customs and traditions of West Amwell,” particularly with respect to the position of township mayor.
However, at a public reception following the January 2007 reorganization meeting, Mr. Molnar indicated his approval in breaking this tradition and publicly stated his support of the choice of Ron Shapella as mayor for 2007.
Third, this is the same pro-development reactionary group that orchestrated Mr. Molnar’s defeat in the 2006 primary.
In order to secure the Republican nomination this year, Mr. Molnar decided to realign both himself and his views with this group.
Their record and intentions are clear.
When the continued existence of a potential sewer service area was first brought to light in 2004, Mr. Bleacher at first denied it, then claimed it was a “bureaucratic oversight.”
Conveniently, Mr. Bleacher is a proponent of transfer of development rights, which would require sewers or a community wastewater system.
Mr. Comly has also publicly stated his support for TDR. From the May 2005 Planning Board minutes, “Mr. Comly inquired as to the Toll Brothers-Coleman Farm property and whether there is any proposed development on that parcel. Mr. Comly suggested the possibility of transfer of development rights to that location.”
Mr. Meader has opposed any protection of our rural community character, including the stream corridor ordinance, which was required by DEP to remove the sewer area.
Another of Mr. Molnar’s supporters with a letter last week was Hal Shute.
In January 2006, Mr. Molnar stated in an interview Mr. Shute “was having private talks with a landowner regarding a development deal that was not disclosed to the Township Committee. This deal would have required sewers or a community wastewater system.”
Mr. Molnar was referring to the Fulper GDP. In April 2006, Robert Fulper appeared before the State Planning Commission, where township representatives were seeking support for eliminating the sewer area.
From the minutes of that meeting, “Mr. Fulper also stated that he thought there was merit to public sewer and water systems.”
As should be abundantly clear from last week’s letters and his own campaign materials, Mr. Molnar has now chosen to ally himself with this group.
As a result, he is looking backward, not forward.
