MANVILLE — The more than 710 families comprising the Christ the King Church parish are getting ready to celebrate the church’s 60th anniversary at a special Mass at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 8.
A parish dinner-dance celebration will take place following the Mass at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church parish hall, located at 1900 Brooks Blvd., Hillsborough, from 6:30 p.m.-11 p.m.
The parish of Christ the King was established April 22, 1948, by the founding pastor, the Rev. Eugene B. Kelly.
From April 1948 to June 1950 all services were held in Manville Fire Co. no. 3, and on June 25, 1950, the formal dedication of the new church and rectory was held with Bishop George W. Ahr officiating.
Today, the church is under the direction and leadership of Rev. Boguslaw Augustyn, C.Ss.R., with the help of Deacon Thomas Giacobbe. The Rev. Augustyn is also pastor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, also in Manville.
Christ the King parish has 25 active ministries ranging from the spiritual, such as the Altar Rosary Society and Holy Name Society, to the corporal, such as Feeding the Needy and the Funeral Mercy Choir.
Those wishing to attend the dinner-dance celebration can purchase tickets by calling the Christ the King parish office, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 908-231-1330.
