Endorsing the Democrats

Juan Lebron, Dayton
It’s commendable when private citizens commit themselves to pursue or serve in public office as is the case with our township’s three Democratic incumbents, Carol Barrett, Joseph Camarota and Charles Carley, and the two Republican candidates, John O’Sullivan and Steve Walrond. However, in acknowledging their commitment to serve our town, there are differences that matter on why we as a town should support their candidacy.
Unfortunately for Mr. O’Sullivan and Mr. Walrond, simply offering a new voice to the Township Council is not a good enough reason for our town to elect them as our next council representatives, which in essence is the platform they are running on. It appears that what Mr. O’Sullivan and Mr. Walrond are suggesting by offering this new voice is that Ms. Barrett, Mr. Camarota and Mr. Carley and the rest of the council engages in group think, policies that according to them could or have had detrimental implications for our township. This disregards that while Ms. Barrett, Mr. Camarota and Mr. Carley are indeed Democrats, how they govern varies from one another in that each one of them has different opinions and approaches on how to resolve certain township issues that come before them.
Consequently, when differences do and have evolved among Ms. Barrett, Mr. Camarota and Mr. Carley, their objective has and continues to be what is in the best interest of this town. It’s not a liberal or conservative position, but a nonpartisan position that has served this town well. That’s the hallmark of good government, especially when considering the economic hardship towns like South Brunswick have experienced because of the failed policies adopted on the federal level. Knowing that none of the services provided in town have been compromised in the last eight years sounds like a very good reason why we as a town should support the re-election of Ms. Barrett, Mr. Camarota and Mr. Carley for another four years.
