MONROE — Emergency crews from around the area responded to a fire that damaged a four-unit building at Rossmoor during the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Along with Monroe firefighters and police, emergency crews from Plainsboro, Jamesburg, Cranbury and Hightstown rushed to the scene, at about 2 a.m., after one of the adult community’s security officers observed smoke coming from a residence located at 280 Milford Lane and contacted 911, according to a Monroe Police Department press release.
”Two of the four units were unoccupied at the time,” the release said. “The fire started in one of the unoccupied units on the second floor. The fire quickly spread through the attic of the four unit-building. The fire was also fueled by high winds.”
No injuries were reported and residents living in the two occupied units were evacuated by police and fire personnel and are staying with family members until the building is repaired, the release states.
Although the incident is still under investigation, authorities do not believe that the fire is suspicious and that it may have been caused by an electrical issue, the release states.
