Hamilton asks MCIA to look at purchase of portion of Trenton water system

FLOW UPDATE

FLOW, a local grass roots group fighting a proposed sale of a portion of the Trenton Water Works, reports that Hamilton Township has passed a resolution urging the Mercer County Improvement Authority (MCIA) “to explore and study the feasibility” of the MCIA’s purchasing from Trenton the portion of the water works serving four Mercer townships.
Those townships are Hopewell, Lawrence and Ewing in addition to Hamilton.
The townships already have sued Trenton over a 40 percent water rate increase, enacted last month. The townships are also opposed to a proposed sale, for $100 million, of the portion of the water works serving the four townships.
That proposed sale, to New Jersey American Water Co., is subject to approval by the state Board of Public Utilities (BPU).
Township users of Trenton water include residents of Brandon Farms, Hopewell Grant and Wellington Manor.
