BORDENTOWN — John F. Markley, 77, passed away Friday at Compassionate Care Center in Trenton. Born in Trenton, he resided in Bordentown.
Mr. Markley was a freight conductor with the Pennsylvania Railroad retiring after 40 years of service. Later, he drove for the Laidlaw Bus Co. (now 1st Student) in Hamilton for 15 years. He enjoyed riding his Harley and playing the piano, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Mr. Markley was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Son of the late James and Jennie Markley, brother of the late Thomas, James, William, Laurence, Howard Markley and Marie Cartlidge, he is survived by his wife Caroline E. Markley; one son, John D. Markley of Bordentown; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sharon Cortina of Lawrenceville and Diane and Randall Leisch of Murphy, NC; eight grandchildren, Matthew and Melissa Leisch, Vanessa and Eric Cortina and their father Lou Cortina, Felicia, Tiffany, Alex and Rachel Markley and their mother Amy Markley; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Edward and Adeline Markley, Richard and Frances Markley and Robert Markley all of New Jersey; two sisters, Elizabeth Mood of Hamilton and Dorothy Morris (and James) of Yardley, PA; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service was Wednesday at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Ave. The Rev. Mark Scafidi officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
