EAST BRUNSWICK — Police arrested a North Brunswick man early Sunday morning after responding to an accident and discovering that the car he was operating was stolen.
According to police, Noe Ramos, 24, was arrested at 4:20 a.m. after police received a report that a vehicle struck a highway divider in the area of Route 18 south and Lake Avenue. Witnesses told police that after striking the divider, the red Honda Accord continued south on Route 18. One witness followed the Honda and observed it run a red light at Route 18 and Racetrack Road and strike the divider several more times, according to East Brunswick police.
Patrolman Ted Yachimovicz caught up with the vehicle on Route 18 in Old Bridge and conducted a motor vehicle stop. Police said Yachimovicz determined that the driver, Ramos, was under the influence of alcohol. A number of personal items Ramos was carrying were discovered to belong to the registered owner of the vehicle, a 62- year-old New Brunswick woman.
Ramos was placed under arrest, and the car owner was contacted. She confirmed that her vehicle, valued at approximately $1,600, had been stolen, according to police.
Ramos was charged with possession of stolen property, driving while intoxicated and numerous other motor vehicle summonses. He was transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center, North Brunswick, on $15,000 bail.
