Democrats win big in Pennington council race

Obama more than doubles McCain’s tally

   Democratic Borough Council incumbents swept to victory by very wide margins in Pennington on Tuesday.
   Edwin Weed Tucker led the field with 900 votes; Glen Griffiths had 822. Republican challengers Stewart Schwab and Mark Blackwell had 541 and 492 votes, respectively.
   The results kept the six-seat Borough Council all-Democratic. The mayor, Tony Persichilli, also is a Democrat. Messrs. Tucker and Griffiths were elected to full three-year terms on the council.
   In the presidential race, Democrat Barack Obama overwhelmed John McCain by a better than 2-to-1 margin in Pennington. Sen. Obama had 994 votes to 471 for Sen. McCain.
