REC SOCCER
After ending the first half in a 1-1 tie, Manville Recreation’s third and fourth grade soccer team’s undefeated status ended when Somerville scored midway in the second half. Although the game ended 2-1, Manville suffered its only loss for the season, but ended a proud 6-1-1.
Manville’s goal came toward the end of the first half when Marco Ortiz passed the ball from the center line to teammate Ramon Quinonez who netted a strong shot from the 18-yard line. The Manville defense held strong against a determined offensive attack by Somerville.
Goaltender Fernando Ruiz, who made several difficult saves throughout the game, played extremely well.
Manville team members Paola Fallas, Illene Gonzalez, Madelyn Flores, Kevin Morales, Tamara Hidalgo-Cruz, Tyler Mastalski, Deven English, Jose Jimenez, Giovanni Locham, Vinicio Moreno, Randy Fallas, Antonio McFadden, Shane Honkisz, Aaron Schlosser, Scarlett Simpson and Steven Garcia, gave it their all, working together, passing the ball and looking for opportunities to score.
Thank you to all the parents who provided support for the team this season and donated snacks and drinks after each game.
